I dont know how this happened but whenever i log on to my account my cable
internet connection wont work. I then right click internet
explorer>properties>connections> LAN settings>uncheck: use a proxy server for
LAN. Then my connection works just fine. But everytime i log out i have the
same problem and have to do it all over again. The "apply" button for the
settings is always grayed out. Whats going on here? Im running WinXP with a
Toshiba Cable modem. thanks, shon.

Try opening Internet Explorer
Click on Tools> Internet Options>
Click on the Connections Tab
Establish your connection settings

This should be preserved.
