work at an internet cafe in 2 days, and i could use some
tips, and info on how to take care of a LAN based network.
also, i am a certified geek at computers, but i stil type
like a 60 year old grandma just learning how a keybord
works. (2 fingures, and only not looking away from the
keybord about 50% of the time.) please, my e-mail is
there, so "respect dis". your input is highly valued.

I agree, a certified computer geek could go to google.com
and find a way to lockdown a computer, but here is a link
to a product called Deep Freeze that does the same thing
as centurion guard. We tested it in our college lab
environments and it works great.

thanks for the input buddy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ye, spy ware is a real problem. so is netmeeting, these
idiots make a vpn tunnel to there computers at home, and
just take all our programs from the server. so we tryed
the roll back on reboot, like u said, BUT, games, games
have updates, and patches. so, when the computers roled
back, the patches were gone, makeing the user re download
the patches for there game. its the same deal-e-o with
windows updates. we use xp, (dont ask why, my boss is an
idiot.) for all the computers. so we had the xp bug haunt
us for days, cuzz we fixed the problem, but then windows
rolled back. so we tryed configureing wondos to only roll
back on certian things, but that caused our fire wall to f
up. we fixed it, but people still down load crap even if
they didnt want to. they get crap like spyware in worm
form from cookies, random viruses such as "card games" or
my fav, the one that makes your registary into a pink
clown when u go to access it. roll backs dont work. we
cant block cookies, if we did, we would be bankrupt. aND
SINCE ITS on a net work, one is all it takes. the smaller
programs, card games ect are a real pain. we have a fire
wall we bought from the gov't, but it makes gaming and
internet speed a drag. encryption is to high. so we use a
cicso modle that they dont even make anymore cuzz lyksys
baught em. anyways, any ideas about the small programs?

If ya had gone to centurion guards site and watched the video or read on it.
or to the other post on deep freeze which also sounds like a good product
just a bit heavier on network traffic. With centurion guard depending on
the model, ours are electronic key some have a actual key you place in the
computer to unlock them. Once they are unlocked you can make any changes
you require, patches, etc... but once they are locked no changes are
accepted. They can install their small programs spyware etc and a reboot
sets it back to when you last updated it. Our electronic key looks like a
kids controller for a remote control car. Its a box with an antenna. You
press the button the computers unlock, you press the button again the
computers lock, that way you don't have to worry about a expert lock picker.
But those are few and far between also. I still say Ghost in combination
with centurion guard or similar product is the way to go. update your main
machine with patches etc.. then just ghost it down to the other computers.
