Internet access but no web pages

Dave

I have an IP address (cable modem) and can ping
yahoo.com. I shutdown my firewall. IE6 can't get to any
web page. I have XP. I scanned for viruses and none
were found. Any ideas? Thanks.

No. We can't get to our e-mail server. We have a radio
application that plays music that doesn't work now. Any
application which uses the internet states that there is
no internet connection. So there seems to be something in
the operating system or PC that is preventing access.
Ordinarily I use a router and my other PCs can get to the
web fine. As an experiment I bypassed the router and
connected the problem PC directly to my cable modem. I
can ping but no application works.
