Internal Error 2755 caused by Windows Installer

Hey everyone,

When I try to install a program, I get Internal Error 2755. Tech support for
the product can't help (they had me install from different locations on my
system, including C:/, but no go). My computer is old (5-6 yr old IBM
ThinkPad) so I don't get free support for Win XP any more.

The product's tech support directed me to this MS article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q251274/

So there IS a fix, that costs money. I wrote to MS hoping for the fix but
they directed me here.

Anyone have a fix that won't result in me being charged by MS?

Suggest you try the steps listed for XP here. Ignore the title as it
also applies to the issue your system is eXPeriencing:

You receive the "Internal Error 2755.1631" error message during
Microsoft product installation
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/832778
This behavior occurs if either one of the following conditions is true:

* You do not have permission to the Installer folder.
* Your Microsoft Windows XP account is corrupted or is damaged.

If this is XP Home Edition you will have to boot to Safe Mode and log on
to the Administrator account to be able to access the Security tab that
is described in the MSKB.
