Internal CD/DVD-Rom device after Win XP OS install

T

Tim Wright

I installed Win XP and the player and movie maker software from an upgrade
CD from Win 98. Mostly it went fine, despite some ugly hardware and
software incompatibilities (scanner, certain mouse functions now obsolete),
and some recommend de- and reinstalls with upgrades of stuff, chief among
them Easy CD creator 5 Platinum. After I re-installed and upgraded Easy CD
Creator, it said it couldn't recognize the external DVD burner I had used
before when it came time to record. I re-booted, re-connected, etc. to no
effect. Then I discovered that the internal CD-DVD-Rom could no longer read
any CD data, either music or data, or rather simply read any inserted disk
as blank, including the XP install disk that I had used for the upgrade!
Anyone have any idea what's going on here? Thanks, Tim
