Intermittent SEND issues - Outlook 2002

hi folks. i have spent a couple of hrs trying to find similar issues, which i
have, but none seem to address my problem:

- i'm running Outlook 2002 (with the latest updates) on a Windows XP (with
the latest updates, including SP3).

- i have not had ANY issues receiving emails.

- but sending does not work intermittently (as in multiple times each day).
i seem to get one (and sometimes both) of the following 2 error messages:

0x8004210b - operation timed out waiting for the sending smtp server

0x800ccc7d - outgoing smtp server does not support SSL

- obviously (since sending works a good 50% of the time) the outgoing server
DOES support SSL

- sometimes rebooting helps and i can send again, but only for a short
while. sometimes rebooting makes no difference.

- not sure if this could be a part of the problem, but every time i open
Outlook, i get a message saying that "a program is trying to access your
address book...", to which i respond NO (e.g. i do not give access to this
other program, whatever it is).

thx in advance for any help,
zac

I'd be inclined to believe the server is having issues, given what you
describe, but it could be your network infrastructure as well.

You have an add-in that's interfering. Start Outlook in safe mode and see
if that changes behavior. If it does, disable all add-ins and reenable them
one at a time until you find thre offending add-in.

Brian, thx very much for your reply.

Would you please elaborate on what sort of things you mean when you say this
could be due to my "network infrastructure"?

Also, how would I disable add-ins (and then re-enable them 1 at a time)?

Thx in advance,
zac

Any number of things. Intermittent connections, mail server issues, router
problems, and so on.

Tools>Options>Other>Advanced Options>COM Add-Ins and Add-In Manager
