Intermittent Error 769

Greetings,

We have two offices, one remote location where the users have to VPN in to log onto the network. Everything has been working great for awhile until recently. Some of the users have been reporting that they can't connect, and that they are getting "Error 769 - The destination is unreachable." If they re-try a few times, they can connect successfully. Some times they can never connect. Some times they connect on the first try without getting the error at all. The error message is always the same.

So to sum it up, it happens intermittently to random users at random times. When it does happen, they can ping the VPN server successfully, so connectivity is not an issue.

I have been unable to find any information on Error 769 in the Microsoft KB. My boss is one of the people that it keeps happening to and he is getting pretty upset that I can't find an answer, so please help!

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Error 769 The specific destination is not reachable.

Cause: 1. The network card in your computer is not turned on. 2. The dial-up
connection is not listed in the 'dial-up' section
