IntelliMouse Explorer 4.0 program specific settings problem

Hi All,

I've got a MS IntelliMouse Explorer 4.0 mouse that's acting up when it comes
to program specific settings. It appears as though the mouse sometimes
'forgets' what the program specific settings are and reverts back to the
default settings. After a reboot, sometimes it remembers again, sometimes
it doesn't. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling both the hardware and
IntelliPoint driver (v5.2, which came with the mouse and v5.5, the latest I
could find on MS's web site), neither of which has had consistent results.

Anyone else run into this and if so, were you able to find a solution? I've
Googled this and checked MS's web site and can't find anything on this. My
environment is:

Dell Precision 380 running Windows XP Pro, version 2002, SP2. Connected
hardware includes:

MS Internet Keyboard Pro
Epson 1660 scanner
Belkin mouse/keyboard/monitor switch hooked up to clone machine (hardly ever
on)
SMC Ethernet switch
Dual ViewSonic G220fb monitors
Handspring Visor PDA
SanDisk memory card reader
Blackberry 7520
HandHeld Products Dolphin scanner

Software that runs persistently when system is running includes:

Outlook 2003
Internet Explorer 6.0, SP2
Windows Media Player 11 Beta (had the same problem with v10, also)
Veritas Backup Exec Desktop Agent
Task Manager
Yahoo Widget Engine (running one, Yahoo produced, widget)
ScanSoft Image Retriever v5.1.0.3
Computer Associaets eTrust Antivirus v7.1.501
Xerox Scan Utility v1.0.0.4

If anyone can help, I'd certainly appreciate it.

Thanks & Ciao,

Tony

Actually thier is a specific problem when running intellimouse and MS
keyboard
together in software version v5.0 and i believe v5.2,either/or.The fix is
kb834840
However software v5.5 doesnt have the problem(s).You might also try
uninstalling
both of them in add/remove,restart computer, then reinstall the software once
back in xp...

Hey Andrew,

Thanks for the response. I'll take a look at the kb and if all else fails,
will do a complete reinstall of both. I really didn't anticipate anyone
weighing in on this one, so thanks a million.
