I'm after a program that will let me organise and manage folders on my
computer that contain thousands of folders and different file types.

For example I would like to have the option to see exactly how many files
of a particular file type are in any one particular folder. Also the
ability to copy all files of a particular file type and move them to a
specified folder.

I appreciate your help!

Cheers, Marty

Does not need too much intelligence: search by extension (eg look for
*.txt), then look at the results count, then move the results to your target
folder. The intelligence of TrackerV3 will do easily.

The XTreeGold clone - eXtreame - http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/link -
that was mentioned a few days ago will do what you require.

I have been trying it over the last week and as an ex user of XTG it is
amazingly good, not all functions are there but enough to make it worth
using key-strokes rather than that stupid mouse pointy-clicky thing (
although a mouse can be used ).

Quick run down for your particular requirement.
Select the folder and hit enter. Press F and enter a file spec. e.g. *.txt
All the text files are now shown.
'Matching Files' in the info box shows their total size.
Ctrl-F toggles the file view for file size, attributes etc. Tag the files
with T or Ctrl-T for all.
F8 opens the second window. Tab toggles between windows. Select destination
and (Ctrl for all tagged) C - copy or M - move.

On another track since the eXtreame files only occupy 670 Kb it looked a
candidate for USB portable software. Sure enough with the help of a
quick'n'dirty winbatch launcher to add drive and folder to the path it works
fine. Its a great little app.
