Intel Matrix Storage Manager

Is it necessary to install the Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver on a new
Windows 7 install if AHCI mode is used at setup and I will not be using RAID
configurations?
I have it installed on this XP machine but I don't know if it does anything
for me.
