Hi, all the time, I have 'insufficient memory cannot open
file or font not recognised'. this computer is only
about 3 months old so not done much on it. do not have
music or pictures just word documents.

I have tried increase my virtual memory to 512mb as
previously suggested to other people. Can someone who
knows provide a sensible layman answer. I use a V25
samsung - run broadband BT and his outlook.

My computer is my business and today I could not open any
files. So no work today. This is such a stupid problem.
Please please someone help a damsel in distress.

Hi Tom, thanks for coming to the rescue, memory 256MB,
133MHz, SDRAM, HDD 30GB that is all I can find on the
original box. Or should I look elsewhere, not much
information is supplied with technology today.

Any help you can give would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Debi

You should have enough memory to run word without problems, so you might as
well ignore that part of the message. I've seen a similar message when
trying to open a Works document in Word. Because of the way Works formats
the page, sometimes it generates error messages in Word. The only way around
that is to open the file in Works and delete all of the formatting.

If that's not the case, it could be some sort of font issue. You might be
best off asking these questions in one of the Word groups, and when you ask,
you'll get a much better response if you give more details. Like whether
it's a file you created on your computer or if you got it from someone else;
how you're trying to open the file; if it always happens or just specific
files; and the exact error message and what you're doing, exactly, when it
pops up.

The more detail you give, the fewer questions other people are going to have
to ask. For instance, if you had mentioned before that this was a problem
with Word, someone might have pointed to you those newsgroups before this.
