instant messenger disabling

Rob

I have an AD domain with approx 200pc joined to it
running windows 2000 and windows XP.

I am interested is disabling any access to instant
messanger, including yahoo messenger, AOL messenger or
anyone other IM that may be running on all workstations.
Are there AD policy's that can be added to allow this?

Thank you,
Rob

My guess is your best bet is to make sure the ports that those programs use are blocked on your firewall so that traffic can't go out.

The only other solution I can think of would be to setup AD to not allow the running of those EXE files for those programs...but a sneaky worker could always try renaming that file to get it to work - hence the firewall suggestion.

You can disallow these EXEs by going into your GPO and selecting User Configuration | Administrative Templates | System and enabling the "Don't run specified Windows Applications"
