When I try to install XP and have formatted with NTFS I get the following
message;
Following value i SIF-files which are used by the installation program are
damage or missing
Value 0 on line in [source Disk Files] with key "SP2.cab"
The installation can not continue.
After having pressed F3 to restart I get the following message at the
prompt: NTLDR is missing
To try to fix this I start up with windows 98 start up diskette and write;

attrib -h -r -s c:\msdos.sys
rename msdos.sys *.ysy

After have written: attrib -h -r -s c:\msdos.sys
I get the following: cdr101:not ready reading drive d

After have written: rename msdos.sys *.ysy
I get the following: required parameter missing

Most thankful if anyone can tell me what to do next!

Since you haven't told us anything about your machine, here are a few
things to check:

1. Are you installing with an official XP installation cd or a burned
copy? If the latter, you may have a bad burn. If the former, check the
cd for any dirt and/or scratches.

2. When you restart, is a floppy in the drive? If so, take it out.

3. Is this an older machine that you are trying to upgrade? If so, run
RAM and hard drive tests per:
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Hardware_Troubleshooting

For more help, please post back with information about your computer and
the installation you are trying to do.

Thks again for the help Malke. I now finally have XP installed after having a
new cd. Must have been a scratch or something. XP seems very nice to use but
maybe my computer is not sharp enough for it. It is 500 Mhz and 256 ram but
still it works a bit slow, but anyway it is working :)

I'm glad you got it working and I appreciate that you took the time to
let me know. Add another 256MB of memory to that machine and it will be
just fine for general use - surfing, email, 2D applications like word
processing, etc. It won't be a speed demon and it won't be a gaming
box, but it will still be useful.

You also should check out these tips for optimizing XP:

Just turning off the eye candy alone will make an appreciable difference
in speed. I do this on all my XP boxen regardless of whether they are
fast or not.

Cheers,

Malke
