Installing PageMaker 7.0 to XP PRO: Error 0xC0000094

TonyK

I have done this many times to other XP PRO systems without problem.

However, when I (apparently) successfully install to my new Media Center
(which is XP PRO), invoking the PageMaker EXE file gives this:

"PM 7.0 EXE Application Error

The application failed to initialise properly (0xC0000094). Click on OK to
terminate the application."

Searching the internet indicated this was a compatibility problem.

Accordingly I applied all the combinations of compatibility restrictions
available under Properties for the PageMaker Setup program. Same result.

The only difference between this computer and my others is that this screen
is a 32" LCD HD Ready screen, linked with a VGA connector.

No other routine/program gives any trouble.

I don't know if this is a PageMaker or Operating System problem, hence
posting across sites.

Help desperately needed as I have already lost a lot of time on this.

Were you logged in with Admin privileges when you did the install?

As an afterthought, I tried installing the previous version of PageMaker
(6.0). It also failed at start, with slightly different error messages, and
invitation to report to Microsoft.
Does this help?

Same question as before. Are you logged in with Admin privileges when
you install?

What is significance. After a total loss of the MCE system, I re-installed
the other day right back to factory settings. I am the only user and
therefore the Administrator. Having said all that, please tell me wher I
should look/what I should do.
Incidentally, before this MCE system crashed I had the same problem. The one
thing (apart from MCE) that is different to me is that all my other systems
have been built by me from scratch (all hardware and software).
It appears therefore that your suggestion might be on the right track,
although it is not consisten with some info from google.
Many thanks.
PS Is there a generally accepted standard for posting - I have always
favored top posting: is that wrong?

No significance to me. Apparently, it's significant to Adobe, though.

Control Panel > User Accounts

Account type should be "Computer administrator"

Chances are, from your description, that it is already, in which case my
suggestion is a red herring and you'll have to find a different solution.

The default choice on Usenet is to bottom-post. However, some groups
have developed a preference for top-posting and others don't care.

What I object to, because it makes threads hard to follow, is switching
from one to the other mid-thread. If A is the OP and B responds with a
top-post, I'll add my comment as a top-post and hope that A will, as
well. If B responds with a bottom-post, I'll add my comment as a
bottom-post and hope that A will, as well. This agnosticism on my part
sometimes tends to annoy Usenet purists, but I don't let that bother me.

Thanks Dick.
I have done the User Accounts thing. I am the Administrator and there are no
Guest accounts.
Does that help. I find this wierd - can it be that MCE doesn't allow this. I
understood the only difference between MCE and the full XP PRO was that
Domains weren't allowed.

Tony,

I've exhausted my (sparsely populated) bag of tricks on this one. Maybe
someone else has an idea.

This is a WAG: I think it's screen resolution. Try posting this to the Adobe
forums - some Adobe staffers usually hang out there. You could try reducing
your screen resolution, or swapping out your monitor, just to see of it
makes a difference. Remember that Pagemaker is quite elderly - not designed
for all the bells and whistles we enjoy today. I'd plug a 19" crt into the
video port and unplug the hottie LCD, reboot and try it.

Good luck!
