Installing on laptop

O

Got a laptop with Win2K installed. I want to upgrade to WinXP pro. I have
never had a laptop and am noticing some progs that I am not familiar with,
eg. battery consumption, mouse pointer stuff (Synaptics Pointing Device
driver) and others. The question: If i just do a normal install of WinXP,
does it contain all this stuff? Are there specific drivers i would need to
get from Dell? Am i being clear? :)

thanks

Notebook computers require specialized hardware drivers only
available from the notebook manufacturer.

After upgrading to Windows XP Pro, visit the Dell support
web site to download/install all the Windows XP drivers designed
for your specific Dell notebook model computer.

No. You'll need to get WinXP-compatible versions of those
applications/drivers from the laptop's manufacturer.

Yes. You'll need to get WinXP-specific device drivers for all of the
laptop's components (motherboard chipset, video adapter, audio adapter,
network card, etc.) from Dell. Download these and burn them to a CD
before doing anything else.

Carey, don't you think it'd be a better idea for the OP to download the
drivers and have them on a CD _before_ performing the upgrade? After
all, the laptop might not be able to reconnect to the Internet (and
Dell) if WinXP doesn't have suitable chipset, NIC or modem drivers built-in.
