Installing new sfw for all users

My XP has two admins. When one installs new software
(a Palm Desktop, from a CD), the other does not see it.

I would like to have a shortcut icon for the new software
on the desktop of each user.

This is up to the people who created the software installation routine - if
they put their shortcuts in docs and settings\username\start menu\programs,
you can move them to \all users\start menu\programs. That doesn't mean all
the software will actually *work* for all users, note - but Palm stuff
should.

When you install a program, if it gives you the option of "install for
all users or just this user" choose "all users".

Other than that, you can make shortcuts to whatever programs you want
and put them in the All Users desktop folder. Right-click on the Start
button and then left-click on "Explore All Users".

Humm... My software came on a CD with autorun and did not give
me this option.

(Gulp!) I did not know that!

I put a shortcut on All Users. Unfortunately, it does not open the program.
I get some sort of error message.
May be I should resintall the program.

Thanks for your tips!

That´s the thing. I copied the Palm directory from docs and
settings\user1\start menu\programs into docs and settings\all users\start
menu\programs, but the
program does not work...

Thanks for your message.

Then I'd reinstall it as the user account who will actually be running the
software. I don't know how well Palm stuff works with multiple user accounts
on the same box, note.
Thanks for your message.

No prob, hope it helps.

Bingo! Installed the software twice, once as user1 and then as user2.

Seems crazy to me, but taht´s how it works.

Thanks.

Probably only puts the registry entries in Current User, instead of
Local machine, and has to do a complete install to add entries.
