I have a user whose desktop got changed by another user and now he cannot
change it back. The text under each desktop shortcut icon appears,
background blocks in blue with white letters. It used to be dark letters
with a transparent background.

Things are OK when he does not have a picture against the background. Then
all you see are the shortcut descriptions. He only gets the blue background
when he has a picture on it.

How do I restore his settings and what settings would I use to get a
transparent backgrounds to the icons when he has a picture for his desktop

Windows XP SP 3 is being used with IE 7

To have transparent icons:

1) Hold down the Windows key and press Pause/Break. On the "Advanced"
tab, under "Performance" click "Settings." On the "Visual Effects"
tab, make sure the box "Use drop shadows for icon labels" is checked.

2) Right-click on the Desktop, and make sure that "Arrange Icons by"
"Lock Web items" is not checked.

3) Right-click on the Desktop, and choose Properties. On the "Desktop"
tab, click "Customize Desktop," then on the "Web" tab, uncheck all
boxes.

4) Make sure any Wallpaper is an image file. Html will stop the
transparency.

Some free advice - be Very carful about downloading anything from the [supposed] mvp
site that has been posted in this thread (re: The Real Truth).

This is NOT a genuine mvp website (MVP = Microsoft Most Valued Professional)

The correct web address is: www.mvps.org/

Not sure what "his settings" are without actually seeing what they were
before the change. If you want to reset the desktop back to the windows
default settings and then start from there then use my Desktop Reset tool.
Download it here http://www.ms-mvp.org/

....And performing dumb acts like sending fake emails as someone who has happened to
have annoyed you isn't infantile?

If you were anything like a 'man' you would have a conversation about stuff and
defend your position, for what it's worth.

Going around like a 13-year-old sending posts in someone else's name, just because
you can, is pathetic...

He's done this with at least 20 different nyms and three different sexes
over the last 4-5 years. He even fakes posts on his pirate blog.

The funny thing is when it forgets to change servers or when he uses the
same usenet client from the same IP and just changes the name.
