Installing and uninstalling services

I've been have a lot of problems since I tried to do a repair install
on XP after installing SP2. One problem is with several services. I
think these are throwbacks to SP2 configurations. Here's one error I
pulled out of the Event Viewer:

The SSDP Discovery Service service depends on the following
nonexistent service: HTTP

another is:

The DCOM Server Process Launcher service hung on starting.

I think the solution might involve installing and uninstalling
services, but I don't know how to do that.

Check the following website on which services can be disable in Windows XP
Home and Pro after installing SP2:

Well, it's interesting, but rather confusing. For one thing, the
asterisks are supposed to indicate changes from SP1 to SP2, but they
don't say in which direction the changes go. Also, it doesn't deal
w/how to install services that aren't there anymore, but should be.
For instance, I'd like to know how to deal w/errors that appear in the
Event Viewer like this:

The Parallel port driver service failed to start due to the following
error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or
because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
FltMgr

I don't see any serivce resembling either of those.
