installing 2nd DC to cover AD for 2 weeks ?

Hi,

Im running a single DC on a 2000 AD domain. Im considering running dcpromo
tool on an old machine (after installing 2k as a member server) and running
it as a 2nd AD domain controller (in the same domain). It would just be
running for a 2 weeks as I thought this would cover any AD problems while I
was out of the office.

Is it more likely to cause problems itself ? for example if the 2nd DC fails
what will happen to AD on the 1st DC ?

Will it require admin intervention to sort out AD on the 1st DC if the 2nd
DC fails ?

Thanks for any information.
Scott.

NOTE: im aware having a second DC is considered good practice but don't have
hardware resources at present for full time ideal solution.

With AD failover is not automatic. If the first DC failed *someone* has to
transfer/seize the FSMO roles, change the global catalog, and re configure
your clients to point to the new DNS server.
