Installed WinFax Pro 10.0 on XP Pro/Need 10.02 Update

Miss Mae

Hi,

Per Milly (Thank you for your kind help) at
microsoft.public.outlook.general:

"You must upgrade to at least version 10.02 for it to have "a chance of
working with XP/Outlook 2003.

--
"Milly Staples [MVP - Outlook]"

I probably should have asked Milly how I could get the upgrade but
instead...

I installed WinFax Pro 10.0 on an XP Pro SP2 machine thinking I could go to
the Symantec website and update it to 10.02 so it will work on XP. Um...when
I attempt to do a LiveUpdate it states my product is up to date and
Symantec's site recognizes my OS as Windows 2000 not XP Pro. How do I get
the 10.02 update please? :-(

Nevermind, I went back to a restore point I made immediately before the
Winfax install. I like time machines... :)

I'll see if Symantec can help me with an upgrade.

Hello Miss Mae.
I'm using WinFax Pro 10.0 in my laptop WinME.
I'm buying a new notebook WinXP and I was planning to download that program.
Are you saying it doesn't work on XP?
And why? Did you find a solution by the way?
Thanks for your time.

NO! Version 10.00 is not compatible with XP and 10.02 is not a downloadable
upgrade. You must purchase it as a new product or as a purchased upgrade
from Symantec.

If you upgrade, which is around 50.00 you get version 10.03, not 10.02.
Version 10.03 is works with Outlook 2003 and .02 is not and you get nothing
but headaches. Because of all the faxing I do the upgrade was worth it and I
didn't feel like downgrading Office just to be able to use Winfax. NOT that
I enjoyed coughing up more money for something that should be compatible in
the first place.

Good Luck

Yes, I could not get WinFax Pro 10.0 to work on XP Pro SP2, so I did a
System Restore to turn back my machine to its previous state before the
installation of WFP 10.0.

Because I need to "upgrade" WinFax Pro 10.0 to at least 10.02 for it to work
on XP. I thought upgrade meant the same as update, so I hastily installed
WFP version 10.0 onto XP Pro believing it would be possible to "update" it
at Symantec's website. My mistake. I found only an "upgrade" was available.
I did not want an upgrade, just an update. It is only 10.0 to 10.02, after
all. Not 10.0 to 11.0.
Did you find a solution by the way?

Not yet. I will be trying to contact Symantec later (when I have some spare
time, ha ha) to see what they can do to help me, because I really don't know
what the proper procedure would be to get a working WinFax Pro onto XP Pro.
(i.e., install v10.0 and then purchase an UPGRADE to install over it? Or
just purchase the upgrade and install this as the full program? ...)
Thanks for your time.
Steff

No problem. You're welcome.
