Installed IPX/SPX now TCP/IP won't work

M

Mike

I need to install IPX/SPX to get a network game to work
(Novalogic Delta Force 2). When I install it on my Dell
P4 (XP home edition), I can no longer connect to internet
or do any other TCP/IP command. Can't release/renew IP
connections. I was able to install IPX/SPX on a 2nd Dell
in the house (XP home edition as well) and it runs just
fine.

What am I missing on the machine that is not working?
What else can I try?

Thanx!

Did you accidently uncheck the box next to TCP/IP? Both protocols can exist
on the same machine.

All 3 protocol boxes are checked (NetBIOS, TCP/IP,
IPX/SPX). It appears that something is wrong with TCP/IP
after I install IPX since I can't even use my browser to
connect to my router. Can't "repair the connection" and
IPCONFIG doesn't do anything.

While connected to the Internet -
START > RUN > cmd
cd\
ipconfig /all
Do you get an IP Address in the form of 169.254.x.x?
If so, what happens if you then run:
ipconfig /renew
If you get an error message, what error message exactly?

Here are the results of the IPCONFIG commands through a

So you ran those commands on the computer that is having the problem?
I thought you said you were not able to run those commands successfully on that network connection.
If all of that worked, then TCP/IP worked.
Is this DSL or Cable modem?
Is there a router involved?
Is there a firewall installed?
If that was not the problematic computer, what happens when you run those commands on it?
If that was the problematic computer, what happens with these pings?
ping 216.239.39.99
ping google.com

OK, we may be getting closer. Based on your feedback, I
tried testing things a bit differently. I think I have a
problem connecting to DHCP on this machine when I have
IPX/SPX in place. Here is what I found:

1) After I install IPX/SPX, i can still successfully PING
google.com and IP you gave me - thank you for reminding
to try that.

2) I can still 'Net View' the other PCs on the home LAN.

3) I can successfully IPCONFIG /RELEASE

4) I canNOT IPCONFIG /RENEW - Says it is having trouble
connecting to DHCP (I don't know why this appeared
successful in the earlier post - sorry for the miscue
there).

5) Browsing to ANY IP/URL fails in IE - this includes the
IP for the Belkin Router i am using (100Mb/sec connection
via CAT 5 - not wireless).

Any suggestions to try next???

We need to simplify this situation while trouble shooting this issue.
Please uninstall IPX/SPX for the time being.
Restart the computer after doing so.
Now does ipconfig /release - ipconfig /renew work?
If so are you able to browse the Internet successfully?
If ipconfig /renew does not work, what EXACT error message do you get?
Does the same thing happen if you boot to Safe Mode With Networking?
