Installations problem, cant copy file - Win XP Home Edition

Hi. I´m trying to reinstall xp after having gotten a completely unstable pc.
It´s a long story, but after installing Civilization Warlords my pc randomly
crashes, reboots etc. No virus however. So, I remove the game, but it doesnt
help. Next step is to reinstall xp.

And here a new problem arises; during the installation it promps "The
installation programme cannot copy the file migregdb.ex_" even though the
file is there on the CD in the library \i386. Trying to continue the
installation process only results in more files missing even though they
apparantly are all there. Finally the installation program reboots abruptly
and restarts the installations process with the same result as before.

What to do?

Needless to say, my XP is original, legit and all that.

Hi Jonathan,

I had that happen a few times, myself. No big deal. I cleaned both the Windows XP CD with a CD Cleaning solution and you also clean the CD/DVD Recorder using a CD Cleaning kit.

Examples:

Kensington® Drive Guardian™ CD Lens Drive Cleaner

Kensington® Media Guardian™ CD Disc Cleaner

After I used the above products, I had no problems. Sometimes, you need to clean the products again, if you never used a Cleaning product before. Read the instructions.

Usually problems copying from the installation CD during setup
indicates faulty memory. The crashes and reboots would also support
this.

Try running memtest and see what it finds
