I am having trouble installing the vista o/s. I inserted the burned disc of
the vista program and an error window pops up saying "setup can not run on
this version of the operating system. to install windows please try booting
from the install media." What am I supposed to do now???
Thanx Richard G.

I'm pretty sure you are trying to install the 64-bit version of Vista on top
of a 32-bit operating system.

You cannot do that as an upgrade. You have to boot off the DVD you made and
do a clean install (all files on your hard drive partition where Vista
installs will be deleted).

I have the same problem! I am trying to install with a new ASUS P5W DH mobo
and a new C2D 2.13 g processor. The video is an ATI x1600Pro card. I get
through the main install, and while trying to boot windows for the first
time, it hangs. No Activity, and the display has no signal. I've left it for
10 minutes with each attempt, but nothing progresses. I've also tried with
both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions with the same results.

Any ideas?

Oops! The post above was meant to be for another topic, not this one. Getting
strange errors stating my posts aren't being accepted... Not sure why they
are still making it through if that was truly the case.

ATI won't load at boot. The dark screen is no drivers for it.
I did this.
Start pc in safe mode. You will have a screen to work on.
Make sure you have vista drivers for the card.
Oen a new desktop folder.
Insert vista driver cd.
Install to the new folder on desktop.
Open device manager. Right click on graphics card.Update driver. Direct the
search to tht new folder on desktop.
When done restart.

I tried safe mode, but it claims that I can't use this because windows hasn't
completed it's install as yet....

Makes foa an interesting install...
