install XP Pro over Vista

I purchased a new computer with Vista Home Premium already installed. None
of my hardware will run so I purchased a new full version of XP Pro. When I
boot from the CD, Windows says that it can't detect the hard drive. How do I
uninstall Vista and reinstall XP? Cheers

If I had just purchased a NEW system with Vista and none of the HARDWARE
worked I would be activating that warranty..........like right now!!!
When you bought it they guaranteed it would work...they build it

Hi Pete, thanks for your reply. I'm sorry, I think I confused readers when I
said Hardware. I meant my two printers, my scanner, video camera etc. I've
just heard from Oki to say that they would be releasing a driver for my laser
printer but not for a little while. I decided that it was cheaper to buy a
new version of XP Pro than to replace all my printers and stuff.

What is the system configuration - number and types of drives? Are they
SATA? You might need to load a driver for the SATA using F6 when prompted
early in running setup from the XP installation CD. Make sure there are XP
compatible drivers for all the hardware that came with the system.

Have you been to the hardware manufacturer websites to look for Vista
compatible drivers, or did you just try to load drivers from CD's that only
contain drivers for Win98/2000/XP?

The bad news is that you would need to format the HD to get rid of Vista and
then install XP pro plus all of the Mobo drivers and Whatever Hardware
drivers (audio/video) came with the system. You would also need to reinstall
all of the software. A format completely wipes the drive so be sure to save
your work/personal files.

Why not a multi-boot? Install XP on a separate partition. You can
make it with Vista's Drivemanagement.

This is what I want to do ... I'm a beginner but relatively intelligent and
good at following directions. How do I install XP on a separate partition?
How do I create partitions on my HD?
