Install XP Fatal Error on INstall

I attempting to reinstall XP Home Edition but everytime I attempt to install it on boot, the system goes through the install process and says that it will take 39 minutes and then it gives me a fatal error response. I can't even get to safe mode. Everytime I boot up it wants to run the install. What can I do? Do you think if I try to boot from a boot disc and try to reinstall XP that it may work?
