Install WinXP Freezes during Installation

I'm trying to upgrade from Windows 98 to Windows XP and
I've disabled my Virus Protection; however, duruing the
Installing Windows phase of the set-up wizard, the
installation program freezes (specifically, about half-
way through 'Installing Devices').

I've tried rebooting several times and the wizard
continues to feeze at this exact same point.

Does anyone have a suggestion?
