install w2k as 2nd OS on an external USB drive

Hi,

I am running XP home on my laptop and I want to install w2k server as the
2nd OS on an external harddisk.
If I boot my w2k-CD-Rom, it doesn´t recognize the external HDD which is
USB-connected. From XP where my ext. HDD is recognized I cant install
win2000 because it is older than XP (error message).
Okay, I try to make a nice boot-floppydisk but my main question is: what do
I have to know to create this dual-boot-system if w2k is not the first
system?
