Install SP1 Update?

Please bear with me as I'm new at all this.
Two day's ago I installed "Microsoft Office Home & Student" A 519MB install which loaded ok and everything works great.
Today I checked for any new updates on Microsoft Updates and I got a High-priority to install "2007 Microsoft Office Suite Service Pack 1 (SP1)" This is a 619.7MB download and will take 5hrs & 12mins to install !!!
My questions:
1: Do I really need this update since my Home
& Student installed OK ?
2: I have Windows XP Home with SP2, so do I
need this SP1 update ?
I would rather not have to download this 619MB update as I really cannot afford the space. But if all you wise MVP's suggest I should, I will.
SYSTEM: Acer Travelmate laptop
Windows XP
Home Edition
SP2
Explorer 7

You purchased "Microsoft Office Home & Student" and installed it - full
version, activated, etc...?

What you are being offered is the Service Pack 1 for Microsoft Office 2007.
Yes - you should install it.

SP1 for Microsoft Office is NOT as large as you make it out to be. Download
it direct and install it. It will replace many of the files you already
have installed.

The 2007 Microsoft Office Suite Service Pack 1 (SP1)

Also - if you are that worried over space that less than 1GB is going to
cripple your system - you might consider getting a larger hard disk drive or
archiving some of the lesser used stuff off your PC.

Search using Google!

(How-to: http://www.google.com/intl/en/help/basics.html )

Unfortunately - a Google Search turns up nothing on getting this particular
model downgraded to Windows XP...

Was there more than a 'didn't like the interface' or 'couldn't understand
where to go or how to do _____' reason to downgrade the decently powered
quad-core system with 3GB of memory?
