Install Reboots, Then Nothing. Now Nothing Else Will Install Eith

System:
nVidia Chip 64 bit AMD Mobo w/ SLI
Single nVid PCI Graphics
AMD Athlon 64
4 GB RAM
WD 75 GB HD
All bios settings to default with exception of boot order (Floppy, DVD, HD,
in that order), and disabling SATA.

System was running XP 64. Installed Vista off ISO DVD. Install completes
to point where it says it must now reboot to complete installation. System
reboots and at the end of the DVD bootup option period, it just sits there.
You can see the HD light flash once and that's it. I have let it sit there
all night before. I reboot with DVD and run the Repair options of fixing the
bootup. It says everything is ok. I have confirmed with Diskpart that there
is a partition and volume and they are the default and active. I get no
errors.

More interesting, I try to re-install either XP 64 or XP Pro and both get to
the point on the CD Boot where they say "Checking Hardware Configuration" and
they just go no where. I have left them running over night also. Nothing.

I do have the latest Bios updates from my mobo manufacturer.

Any ideas would be great. This is my demo / play system and I am really
bored right now.

Hi Barrett,

Assuming the drive is empty (no data to save), I would remove the existing
partition/volume and recreate it as part of setup, particularly if you
initially created it with a third party application.

Thank You Rick,

The partition was created during the installation process. The drive was
wiped clean and this is a clean install.

Hi Barrett,

Then three things I can think of:

a) faulty drive - a drive diagnostic tool from the manufacturer would
confirm this.

b) bad memory stick - you may want to run a diagnostic on this as well.

c) hardware timing - not set to defaults or set incorrectly.
