Install problem

Tried installing AntiSpyware and the Windows Installer
comes up and just stalls. It's got a picture of a CD, as if
it's trying to load it off of a disc but clearly this is a
downloadable program and I'm not sure why it is trying to
find software. It just sits and sits and I have to force
quit it by pressing control alt delete. Any ideas why this
isn't working?

Hmm--you have a variant of an issue that is relatively frequently reported
here. The solution that I usually recommend is to download the Windows
Installer cleanup tool:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301

and use this tool to remove the remnants of whatever product is indicated by
the installer when it pops up unexpectedly. This is in the case where the
particular product isn't now installed, or you don't have media for it, etc.

In your case I see a problem with this advice--you don't seem to be able to
pinpoint just what is being asked for??

Do you know if you are up to date on critical patches via WindowsUpdate? If
so, you should already have Windows Installer 3.1 which is one step which I
might recommend otherwise.
