Install Print Driver Remotely

Jody White

I'm in the process of setting up a new printer on our network. We're
also in the process of slowly changing our printers to a print sever
environment. Currently we set each network printer up locally.

The print driver for XP and 2K clients will be on a NT server. Is there
a way to push or remotely install or even automate the install of the
print driver on the client machines?

Thanks,
J

see http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/NetPrinterAllUsers.htm for one solution.

Please be aware that some Windows XP printer drivers don't inter-operate
with the Windows NT 4 printer driver counterparts very well at all. If at
all possible, I suggest switching (upgrading) to Windows 2000 or Windows
2003 for the print server. You may find the document at
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=bpl13043
enlightening, whether or not you are using HP printers.

Be aware also that support for Windows NT 4 is esentially at an end -
protecting NT 4 servers from attacks (viruses, worms etc.) is becoming quite
difficult.
