Install of SP4 fails.

I have tried the network install of SP4 on my home computer a couple of
times and it always fails late in the process, giving me an option to back
out the changes. The following are the last few lines in the svcpack.log.
Does anyone have any ideas what may be causing the failure ?

..... Early lines deleted ....
Starting process: C:\WINNT\system32\wzcsetup.exe /i /P
Return Code = 2147942402
DoInstallation:RunInfProcesses for ProcessesToRun Failed
Service Pack 4 Setup encountered an error: An error in updating your system

Failed Deleting C:\WINNT\system32\msiinst.tmp 2

An error in updating your system has occurred.
Select 'OK' to undo the changes that have been made, or select 'Cancel' to
quit. If you select 'Cancel', your system will be left in a partially
updated state and may not work correctly.

Hi Fritz

This should fix your Problem:

- Go to the following MS KB-Article:

- "Using 802.1x Authentication on Computers Running Windows 2000":

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;313664

- There download the Package:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...FamilyID=6B78EDBE-D3CA-4880-929F-453C695B9637

Direct Link:
http://download.microsoft.com/downl.../Q313664/NT5/EN-US/Q313664_W2K_SP4_X86_EN.exe
(~3 MB)

- After having downloaded this update, please install it.

- Reboot.

- Install SP4.

Hope this helps. Regards,

Fabio

Hi Fabio,

Unfortunately, this did not solve the problem. The SP4 install fails at the
exact same spot with the same error.

Thanks,

Fritz

Hi again

- Did this Update I stated above install properly?

- Have you tried to install SP4 in safe mode yet (pres F8 at Startup)

Thanks and Regards,

Hello again,

The update seems to have completed properly. I get the completion screen
and it also shows up in Add/Remove programs. Of interesting note, in the
Q313664.log it also lists the error with wzcsetup (Return Code = 2147942402)
but continues on to finish the installation.

I just tried to install SP4 in safe mode. Same error at the same place.
And I don't even need Wireless Zero Configuration! Frustrating.

Thanks for your help so far.
Regards,

Fritz

With all else failing, I did a clean install of Windows 2000 and was able to
install SP4 with no problems. I was unable to get any details regarding the
wzcsetup.exe error which caused the failure.
