install new DVD drive - now won't recognize CD drive & sound 'wobbly' at times

We replaced our 'dead' DVD drive with a LG internal DVD/CD rewriter. The cd
drive was working before. Now the system won't recognize it. We checked
and it doesn't appear like we disconnected anything. My hubbie didn't
change any of the pre-existing cables. He just hooked up the new DVD to the
old cables.

The other problem is when we are viewing a DVD, at times, the sound goes
'wobbly'. If I pause the movie and then start replaying it, the sound is
okay. It happens intermittently.

Are these two problems related?

We are running Windows XP SP2. The machine is about 2 years old.

Thanks for any help.

I didn't even realize that there were jumpers. I ended up getting my
teenage son to help. Us 'oldies' couldn't even see the jumpers :) He said
we had 2 masters. Oops.

The sound problem was also fixed. He hadn't upgrade the wires.

Thanks.
