whilst I am in frontpage designing a web page, and i install a picture, i do
not get to see the picture unless I go into preview mode, all i get in design
mode is the little red cross like when your pic is missing when you have
uoploaded it, but this is happening during the design stage, can anyone help
as im on my last couple of pages and its going to be fully of pics with links
but i cant get to do anything with them as is.

How are you "installing" a picture? - you should be Importing it into your
FP web (usually into the Images folder) FIRST, then placing into your design
from there.

Also: What format is the picture in? - .jpg ? .gif? .png?

They should also be sized and optimized prior to Importing them into your
web. Remember also, you must create a web/site first - not a loose page.

The pics are in different formats, ie: jpeg, gif etc, I install them into the
images folder before installing them into FP, then I use the insert pic and
install it, if I am in design mode I cannot see the pic just a little red
cross, if I am in preview mode I can see the pic no problem.

Also, its a fully blown web site and not a single page, forgot to mention
that bit

How do you "install them into the images folder"?

You concept of the word INSTALL is not quite right. As Rob said you must
prepare your images and IMPORT them into an image's folder. Then you can
place them on the pages (not install). That way you should be able to see
them in Design view. Only use .jpg and .gif for your web pages. What image
editing program are you using??

Sorry for sounding so stupid but what do you mean, how do I install them into
my images folder, I find them on my computer disks then I right click and
either use the copy and paste or drag them there. Shouldnt I do it like that
if not then please tell me how I should be getting my pictures into my images
folder, I should have read the manual I think, instead of diving straight
into it :(

First, you don't "install" an image.

Second; before Importing your image into FP web/site you first resize it
and optimize it. (IrFanview is great for this).

Open FP
Open Site
Select your Images folder
File | Import File (browse to where your resized/optimized image is stored
and select it)
Ok
Now, your image is ready for use and stored in your Images folder within
your FP web/site.
Now you can use it in your design.
