inserting clip between two others

Hi...I'm compiling still shots into a "movie" with sound effects, narration etc. I have fully edited one section into a "video" clip and now need to insert another edited section into the centre of the first one. I have "split" the first clip into two clips at my selected insertion point, but I can't tell if it's really split or not. How do I insert the second clip without spoiling the already edited sound on the first clip? In other words, how can I shift the edited sound/image tracks on the first clip as a whole so that I can insert the new clip without having to edit everything again

How does one move blocks of edited material on the timeline as a whole, keeping image and sound together?

I have several edited clips saved as video/movie files. I can string them together on the timeline to make one movie, but then I can't edit them any more. How do I join together seperate clips to make one movie that can still be fine edited if necessary

Many thanks for anyone out there. Sorry about the length of this quesiton - I'm new to this.

If you split the Video, the Audio will be automatically split
in the same place, and you can just drop a new clip onto
the timeline where the split is.

However, if you also have an Audio/Music track, that will
not be automatically split. You would have to split that
in the same spot, and then drag the Audio/Music clips to
realign them with your video after your new clip is inserted.

Another option is to first save the Video with Audio/Music as
a Movie, then import it back as a clip. Then when you split
it, all of its audio will be split with the video.

Keep in mind that each time you save your video as a movie,
you will experience some loss in quality. If you save in
DV-AVI format, the quality loss will probably not be
noticable.

Thanks - this was very helpful

How do I shift blocks of edited sound on the Audio/Music track? I spent an hour doing "nudge right" to move the track 4 inches along the timeline. There has to be an easier way! Any tips?

Can't you just select the tracks and drag them
on the timeline?
