Picking up the thread, I can't create clips either. I converted a VOB

Ok...the .mpg is imported into Movie Maker...
drag it to the timeline and try saving it as
a .wmv or .avi file. Then re-import the new file
and see if it will play.

To save as a .wmv movie file...
Type...Ctrl+P to open the Save Movie Wizard /
Choose...My Computer /
Next /
Enter a Name and a Save Location /
Next /
Tick...'Best Quality For My Computer'
Next/
Wait while the movie is saved /
Finish...

To save as an .avi movie file...
(and several other options)
Type...Ctrl+P to open the Save Movie Wizard /
Choose...My Computer /
Next /
Enter a Name and a Save Location /
Next /
Show More Choices /
Other Settings /
Open the drop window and choose...DV-AVI /
Next /
Wait while the movie is saved /
Finish...

Good luck!

Ok...the file must not be fully compatible
with Movie Maker.

Maybe you could convert it to a .wmv file
with the following software.

That's something I suspected when Wmenc would hang up on the 2nd pass.
Is there any way I can avoid the 2nd pass?
Cheers-Herb.

If it fails on one pass cbr or one pass vbr then it most likely the mpeg
file is corrupt.

But if you encode using JUST SINGLE PASS, if it fails on single pass then it
is most likely a dud file.

I would like to try single pass, how do I go about doing it pls. ??
I've never done it and hoping it'll work for me.

Open WME
select convert a file
browse for input file
name output file and select save as wmv file type.
select content ype, I chose file archive.
You can now alter the settings for video/audio, I left them at preset level.
Add any extra info you want.
Untick box - begin converting when I click finish
click finish.
Now select the properties tab / compression / edit / under mode chose cbr.
