Insert Picture confusion Word 2003

Colleen

I am having trouble with inserting pictures (jpeg) into my Word
document. The last few I have inserted, somehow wind up in the header.
I cannot correct it to save my life. I've tried re-scanning the
picture, re-naming it and inserting into a blank document. Same thing.
The other question I have, is why is it so difficult to insert a page
between 2 pictures? I've tried to work around this by inserting a few
blank pages, then inserting pictures into them, but if I've missed on
along the way I can't add a blank page in between. Hope that makes
sense! Thanks, Colleen.

Most likely you are inserting pictures wrapped instead of In Line With Text.
If so, then each picture is anchored to a text paragraph, and, since the
text the pictures are anchored to never fills the page, you never get to a
new one unless you insert a page break. You'll probably have better luck if
you insert the pictures inline, which is the default in Word 2000 and above
(and can be selected as the default in Word 2002 and 2003, on the Edit tab
of Tools | Options).

Thanks Suzanne! I would never in a million years thought of that. Of
course it works now. I do need to "eyball" the centering of some of the
pics so to make them easily adjustable, I put them into a single row
table. This works well. There are probably more sophisticated methods,
but it works for me. Thanks for your help - I wish I'd asked sooner...
Colleen.

I do find tables helpful for inserting pictures, especially where you want
to put several on the same page and constrain them all to the same (or a
given) size. You can also easily add captions in the same or another row of
the table, and of course you can add or remove borders as desired.
