Insert a MPG movie into powerpoint problem

I am trying to insert a mpg into my powerpoint 2000 presentation and it won't
work. I inserted an .avi movie that plays just fine in the beginning of my
slides but when I get to the slide to insert the .mpg nothing happens. The
mpg plays fine in Windows Media Player. Help! I need to have the two
seperate .avi and .mpg movies to play.

"Won't work" is a very broad statement. What happens? See
http://www.echosvoice.com/tshoot_video2.htm for some troubleshooting tips.

For a quick diagnosis, test it in the MCI player by going to Start > Run and
type mplay32.exe (if you are running Windows XP or 2000) or mplayer.exe (Win 98
& ME) and open your MPG in the MCI player. If it doesn't run there it won't run
in PowerPoint.

In that case you'll need to do some reading. See
http://www.soniacoleman.com/Tutorials/PowerPoint/multimedia.htm . Read section
3 carefully and verify that your MCI settings match those listed at the end of
the section.

Thank you. I get an error message "Powerpoint couldn't insert a move from
the selected file. Either the file is non-standard, or Quicktime is not
installed properly." I checked out the webpage you referenced and read
it.....but I am not experienced enough to mess with the registry..!!.. I
downloaded the latest version of Media Player 10 and it will now work on my
PC like a charm.....but still will not work on my laptop even after I
downloaded Media Player 10 on the laptop.

Any additonal information you can provide would be most appreciated.

I checked out the Registry Editor and compared it to the webpage. I am
missing the" wmp REG-SZ MPEGVIDEO". How do I get it installed? The web
page didn't tell what to do if anything was missing.

Thanks again....Dow

I wouldn't worry about WMP. Do you have MPEGVideo REG_SZ mciqtz32.dll at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\MCI32?

I figured out a very simple way to solve my problem. In XP I went to
Windows Movie Maker ...Imported video...and opened the mpg. I Drug each clip
to the storyboard and Saved it. Works like a charm!!!

It was so simple to do and I hope this helps someone else in a similar
situation.
