For general printing and decent photos the C88+ works. It uses 4 chipped
cartridges.

If interested in an all-in-one type, the HP PSC 2110 works just fine
with Windows 98SE. With any HP printer, be sure to get the driver disk.
Windows 98 drivers are no longer available from HP.

because Win98 is garbage, worse than the rest. If that is all your
computer can run then it is time to get a new computer.

Lots of people run Win98. It's nothing for anyone to get disturbed.
Even using that OS people can turn out good photos.
Are you having a bad day?

Lots of people run Win98.

I find that people who subject themselves to this old technology usually know very little about computers and most likely are snapshooters.  They should snapshoot and get their prints at Costco.

Newsflash, guys - the O.P. said "for personal use." Where did you get
the idea he's printing photos? He didn't say what that "personal use"
might be. Could be anything.

Nothing wrong with snapshots, either. They can become treasured
mementos. Ask my mother. A while back I came across a snapshot I took of
my now-deceased brother on his first Christmas, forty years ago. I took
the photo with a Swinger B+W Polaroid camera I had been given the year
before, and it is the only photo of my brother from that Christmas that
still exists, as far as I know. The photo had deteriorated because it
hadn't been stored properly, but I scanned it and repaired it using The
GIMP. I then printed a 5x7 print with my aftermarket ink, framed it, and
gave it to her for Christmas this year. It now hangs on the wall, next
to the color print of him that I printed for his funeral - using Windows
98 - another snapshot that is treasured. And BTW, I'm still waiting for
that four-year-old framed print to show some fading. I don't see any yet.

Agreed! I was surmising the idea of 'photos' to use as a general example
only to point out that Win '98 had the capability of achieving fine results
for whatever the user intended; snapshots, text, graphics, CAD, whatever. I
see no reason to malign an older OS or its user because he/she is not using
the newest equipment or software. And even if a reader disagrees with an
opinion, verbalizing that thought without sarcasm or negativity leaves room
for either more discussion or ill will.

TJ - what our perennial troll doesn't consider is that computers, operating
systems, printers, inks, software, etc., are merely tools, and that the
product you derive using these tools is the essence of what all this tech
stuff is about. The "newest, best, most powerful computer, operating
system, or printer" isn't necessary for many users. Case in point - I
haven't seen any posts from MK indicating that he has replaced his ip4000
printer, several generations old in the Canon line, by a new pro-line Canon
printer. I guess he is still satisfied with the photos he prints with this
"old technology." Just as I am delighted with the results from my i960 and
ip5000 printers.

Win 98 was junk when it came out.  Today it is aged worthless junk.
