Ink level reset for HPF380

I use ink refills (non-HP) for my HP F380 but I find the procedure for
resetting the ink level is somewhat boring and risky - you extract the
cartridge, cover a contact of the print head, then put the cartridge in the
printer, the test page is printed, then pull the cartridge off, cover
another contact, put again the cartridge in the printer, another test page
is printed, now again pull the cartridge off and remove the two pieces of
scotch tape - it is easy to run the procedure incorrectly. Now isn't there
some sw utility (non-HP, I think) to reset the ink level (under WinXP)?

The entire process is boring and risky and messy. Should a cart leak
(it has been reported here a few times) you have a mess that will
probably end the printers usefullness. Since you get a new printhead
with a new cart the only other issues is lower quality and more rapid
fading.

So if you want to put up with the boredom, risk and mess and the reduced
quality and more rapid fading is acceptable then keep refilling.

Sorry that you met the rude troll that hangs out here. Just ignore him.
To the best of my knowledge there is no alternative way to reset the cartridges.

This lurking troll is in the printer business to make money. He does
not generally disclose this but will admit it when cornered. Do you
want advice from someone who is making money that is in the business?

I do not make any money from this business. I have been accused of
working for Canon but the closest I get to Canon is to used their
printer. I used an Epson scanner and a Nikon Camera so it is very
apparent that there are certain posters who like to disparaged what I
say because they do not agree with it.

There is an informal group of this posters ( a club or church as one can
put it) and if you do a lot of reading you will know why they are.

Sorry, I just reread my post and there is an implication there that it is the
cartrdige that is reset, that is almost certainly wrong. Nevertheless the ink
counter cannot be reset by any method other than the one you use so far as I
know.
