Indexing Service in a loop

We have a computer running Windows 2000 Service Pack 4. It
also runs IIS and Internet Explorer 6 SP 1. The Indexing
Service goes into a loop, using 100% CPU. We have applied
all the available patches using Windows Update, but to no
effect.

Does anyone have any idea what is causing this, and how we
can stop it? Indexing Service (cisvc.exe) is required for
MS CRM.

Could be a corrupt index.

Right-click My Computer and press Manage.

Under Indexing Service, try stopping and starting the service.

If that doesn't work, empty and rebuild the Catalog.

Jerold,

We have already tried that, but to no effect. We've
stopped the service, deleted the catalog folder(s) and
still it loops. Eventually we formatted the disks and re-
installed Windows, but still cisvc goes into a loop.

I have just noticed a posting on the 'Index Server' forum
where someone else has exactly this problem, again using
W2K Server and SP4.

Sounds like a bug in the code to me...!

Barry.
