Since a couple of week I noticed an increasing number of DEP interventions.
The lastest one did it for me. I was working in Excel (2000) on an Dell
inspiron 6000 (1GB memory) with Win XP SP2 fully patched. DEP message! Only
app. open at the time: Excel.
No new software has been installed on this machine for the past 3 months or
so. System was utterly stable.
At some point in time I got an DEP message. Explorer closed down &
restarted, then the message "unexpected error" popped up. So I restarted the
application and went on.
However more and more often I get these DEP messages, including the
"unexpected error" one. When using Excel or sometimes with WS-FTP Pro or
Mozilla Firefox or MS-Word, when closing Outlook from time to time, when
shutting down the system to fast after closing another application of
whatever nature (it varies). I suspect that an update is responsible for
this.
I am really getting fed up with this upto and including the point where I
feel I now have an unstable system and might be forced to consider throwing
out Windows altogether. I did not ask for this. I do understand the buffer
overflow and all the other malware issues, but if I can't continue to work
with a system undisturbed, there really is no use for it anymore. Does anyone
know how to tackle these DEP troubles?
