Incorrect printing of a field in a Word 2000 footer.

I use the field "numpages" as part of the footers in Word 2000 (9.0.2720)
and this displays fine in print preview and on the "screen" display.

However when a document is printed it shows only what would appear for
"page" sao it prints Pages 3 of 3 pages, Pages 4 0f 4 pages when there might
be 40 pages.

I have the option update fields ticked in the printing options.

I use and HP 710C deskjet printer.

It seems to be a Word problem as the same problem happens when on another
computer and with another printer.

Can anyone throw light on the solution of this problem??
