Incomplete OS load?

For some unkown reason, Windows will not finish loading
when I install new software.

- PC boots
- Windows splash
- Login box
- Network batch runs
- Wallpaper displays
- Windows hangs

I've let it go for about 30 min.

If I reboot in safe mode and uninstall the software I just
installed, Windows starts up just fine. Install new
software, same deal.

P4 1.70, 1GB RAM, SP4

and what is the new software?

It happens with anything. The most recent thing I
installed before the issue was Jedi Academy.

If you have an anti-virus try to desactivate it and
reboot. Sometime some programmes need to get some acces
and the Anti-Virus block thoses acces. Once you clean boot
whitout the anti-virus the new software installation will
complete and you will be ok to reactivate your Anti-Virus.

Maby Im wrong but try it.
