Inbox deletes messages automatically

Something has changed. I use Outlook 2007 and have always recieved my email
using Outlook. Today if I open the Inbox and them go, apparently, any other
folder when I return to the Inbox my current messages seem to have been
deleted and cannot be located in any folder. I do not remember changing any
setting. What could I have done?
