INATPHELP Errors

Running W2K Pro - not server - SP4.

Recently had the following logged in event viewer:-

Source: IPNATHELP
Category: None
Event ID: 32003
User: N/A
The Network Address Translator (NAT) was unable to request an operation of the
kernel-mode translation module. This may indicate misconfiguration,
insufficient resources, or an internal error. The data is the error code.

Following that, we get frequent occurrences of:-

Source: IPNATHELP
Category: None
Event ID: 31008
User: N/A
The DNS proxy agent was unable to read the local list of name-resolution
servers from the registry. The data is the error code.

The error codes are not constant.

I can find nothing in the KB relating to Event ID: 32003 and the only
reference to the related description refers to W2K Server. There's nothing
for event 31008 either and the description for that doesn't bring up anything.

Any clues?

This is not a W2K error, it is something caused by third-party NAT software.
Are you having any other problems? Is your DNS working? Make sure your DNS
entries are correct in tcp/ip properties. Other than that, I would say
ignore the errors or call the vendor which supplied the NAT software.

Sorry, but I think it _is_ a W2K problem. It has something to do with ICS.
Other sources have suggested using a DSL router, rather than ICS but I don't
really see why I should replace a perfectly good DSL modem & n/w hub....

You wouldn't be replacing the modem - you still need that. You would only
be replacing the hub and eliminating ICS. But you didn't answer the
question, is DNS working?

Sorry, yes DNS is working. And the error now hasn't reappeared for a
fortnight. 'Just one of those things....'
