Userenv Error

Since installing W2K SP4, I keep getting the following error reported in the
Event Log (Application):-

Source: Userenv
Category: None
Type: Error Event ID: 1000
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM

Windows cannot unload your registry class file. If you have a roaming
profile, your settings are not replicated. Contact your administrator.

DETAIL Access is denied. , Build number ((2195)).

It's only been happening since installing SP4. The M$ KB references to
it are for earlier versions (NT) and pre SP3. The workaround for those
(running IPSEC) don't seem to work.

A side-effect of the error is to significantly increase shutdown time.

Any clues?

prior to SP4 the advise was to remove update 329170 but it is built into
SP4 now.

There appears to be a hotfix available from MS
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;814770

but you will have to telephone MS to order it.

plus

start > run > gpedit.msc > Computer Configuration> Administrative
Template
System > Logon > Maximum retries to unload and update user profile ...
set
enabled and to say 5 ... default if not configured is 60!!

the gpedit.msc fix does not resolve the event viewer error but stop the
slow shutdown.

Another workaround that can work is to do a
net stop spooler
before shutdown.

Hope that helps

Thanks.

The hotfix applies only to SP3. It won't run if SP4 is applied.

At least the gpedit wrinkle speeds up the shutdown.

Further Info:-

Thanks to Robin Carron, I now have a get around that overcomes the problem.
Not only that, it identifies the offending service and M$ now provide a hotfix
to sort this particular one.

Robin's fix is detailed at: http://www.citrix4ge.de/ctxsffaq/index.htm#prof

Check out KB article 828153.
