InactiveIcons in System Tray

Hi there all,
New problem.
My System: Win XP, Compaq Presario 2305 (V2000 Series). All updates
performed and MS Defender installed too.

Since about 2 days, I noticed that the system tray no longer hides inactive
icons and the 2 little arrow >> no longer appear next to the system tray. I
tried turning off and on the fnction in task bar properties but nothing doing.

How I can I repair it to start working again? Reg fix? Throw pc out the
window? (LOL double pun).

Help please!

Ok actually ignore this message! Seems like it went back to normal.

Dunno if it's related but I uninstalled the program Windows defender and it
seems all is back to normal due to it. Incidently, the problem occurred
around the same time I did the upgrade to the latest verion of Windows
Defender. Could be a coincidence, however the application was buggy and
crashed often.
