remove system tray icons

Last few weeks I've installed and uninstalled some trial software. Now
I've noticed viewing the system tray icons in the start bar, that
there are still some system tray icons present which should not be
there. They are in the not active list. I'm sure they're not working
(turning them on , and in doeing so not hiding them, doesn't make them
appear). They seem to be leftovers of programs I've uninstalled. But
how can I completely remove them? I can't see which program they'd
belong to. They aren't present in the startup list of msconfig as far
as I can tell. They are only present on my windows account so in
regedit it's somewhere in 'current user'. So where in the register
does windows store my active/nonactive system tray icons? Or how can I
remove them completely? But only those 3, not every system tray icon?
Or how to find out which program they belonged to?

Use google and "system tray icons".
You'll get a ton.

Well, hello.... already did that :)
Went to msconfig to look for startup programs , but not a trace of
what it could be there. The programs involved seem to be completely
uninstalled. All that's left are 3 traces of system tray icons which
nog are in the 'not active' list and don't belong to anything (well ,
it's not in startup programs). Where in regedit in my account are
these icons saved?

Sorry about that. I've been doing the same thing that you did and you
know, you're right. I'm not getting that far either. That article
looked good but it didn't do much. It hit the basics too, and if you
got any head on your shoulders you've done the same things they suggest.
I'll watch this thread. I don't have the issue, but this sounds like
something everyone may run into some day.! Good luck.
