In Vista Outlook 2002 won't remember my email account password

I've always used Outlook, and have now got Vista. When I check 'remember
password' on the screen that configures Outlook for receiving emails it still
will not remember the password - next time I log on it is blank and has to be
reinserted.

Thanks very much - at least I know I don't have to keep trying to repair the
irreparable!
